Hi,

I need some 3mm (not 3.2mm - too big) dia cotter (split) pins in A4 stainless steel. The usual suspects like Seascrew and A2A4 only do 3.2mm but does anyone know a source of these in 3mm ? Length is 19 mm.

Thanks,

Any reason not to use a 2.5mm pin ?

They look a bit wimpy compared with what came out and it's for a pair of lifelines so I don't want to be responsible for killing someone (esp if it's me :D).

I will use 2.4mm if it's not possible to get hold of 3mm ones.

Ok - didn't know what the application was ...

I'm wondering if another possibility might be to fit M3 screws/bolts with suitable heads, and Nylok nuts ? (depends on the fitting, of course) I wasn't sure if they made Nylok in M3, but I found some on: Ebay #110645243292

You don't say where you are in your profile - If you did I might be able to help a little better.

I did however just pick up two packs of split/cotter pins this week from Chris Hornsey Chandlery in Southsea. One pack of Holt Marine 3.2x19mm and another pack of 3x25mm. If it helps - the 3mm are labelled BIG BEAR SUPPLIES Code A4159.

Are you sure they're 3mm ? Their catalogue only shows 3/32" (2.4mm) and 1/8" (3.2mm) catter pins. Maybe I'll phone them to make sure but it looks to me like the wire they're made from is likely only available in imperial sizes...

I have the packet on board with me now. They are 3.0mm and are definitely smaller in diameter than the 1/8"x3/4" (3.2x19mm) ones.

I'm glad of that actually since I bought the two different packs as spares and would have been miffed if they had both turned out to be 3.0mm!!

Hope this helps Martin.

Ah.. Just re-read the packet.. The Big Bear ones are actually A2 as opposed to the Holt 3.2mm which are A4... Still pretty corrosion resistant though.

I have just given up on finding split/cotter pins below 3.2 mm in A4 and have gone for A2 ones from 'boltmeup' on ebay.

I imagine they will be available somewhere but for this application A2 will have to do.

Sorry I can't help you
