Anyone out there know if you have to register a 3G dongle before use in Albania (like you have to do in Turkey) or can you just get a local SIM card for an unlocked dongle?
Not quite sure what you mean as we haven't done Turkey yet. I suggest buying a 3G dongle or SIM in Albania as they were reletively cheap esp. CF Greece. In Sarande last year we picked up Cosmote from Corfu ok - further adventuring would negate this of course. Note that Vodafone has a reciprocal arrangement in Albania so using your UK phone is ok. However we moved to O2 recently and I have noticed that Albania is not on their European partner list.
I don't actually know - I've rarely seen Albania mentioned on phone forums - but I doubt if it's like Turkey. Turkey has been discussed a lot and nobody has said that anywhere else has such an inconvenient procedure.
I'd guess that you probably do have to show your passport, though, as in Greece.
Thanks for the info people. I'm actually asking on behalf of some relatives who are going to Albania to work for a couple of years. I've passed the info on to them.
I have a Tesco pay as you go phone. Often when I'm sailing off Corfu I get text messages welcoming me to Albania, and saying that the cost is approx 80p a minute. Needless to say I always check that the phone is connected to a Greek provider before making phone calls.
