Budget up to about £120k - looking to acquire a recent (c2-5yrs old ish) used 30-34ft Flybridge on shafts. We like the Rodman 900/940 and Prestige 32 and the Corvette - though the latter is above the budget unless we older. Trying to avoid outdrives if poss - just my preference. Must have easy WA access. She is to be berthed in a Marina. Seen the latest MF10 and the Benn 30 too at SIBs. What else should we looking at? What should we avoid!!

To be used mainly for All year South Coast Cruising, some overnighters and when we get a bit more brave - Scilly's and C I's - and even France!

As always, any and all veiws welcome....

Galeon 330 is an excellent boat, and you would get an 04/05 in budget, but is OD.

Ditto the F34.

What is your aversion to OD? If its handling, then I would contest that twin OD is easier than single shaft, and no harder than twing shaft, just different.

If its cost of maintenance, with the distances you want to do, this would be offset by using way less fuel.

In this size of boat, restricting yourself to shafts will limit your options imo.

If you were to extend your age criteria, then £120k would buy you a 2000 or 2001 Sealine F37, and for me that would be the best buy. A little older for sure, but they are excellent boats and with the extra length so much better for longer range cruising

Take a look at prestige 36. It was our first mobo and its been great. Bags of room with impecable handling and good seakeeping. Well within budget. MInes still just like new with a lousey trade in value

We had a 2006 P32 for three years, which had a bit of an uplift from the previous version. You could get a nearly new P32 however we would not have bought ours if we had seen the P36 first - both excellent boats and being shaft drives the sea handling is second to none.
If you could get an P42 of any age I would go for it, but god luck

Galeon 330

I would definitely consider a Galeon 330,I have owned one from new since 2005 with very few problems, great handling boat, cruise all day long at 28knots with top speed of 32 knots,I have been all round the West coast of Scotland with mine, and done some pretty tricky passages, the boat has always handled anything that I have thrown at it, as all ready posted you should pick up a 2004/05 model for about £120,000. Indeed I have just taken a deposit on mine from a couple from Sweden, it was a 2005 fitted with Volvo Kad 43s with 270hrs on the clock, I have covered 2800 miles in the 4 years that I have owned her, I have sold it for £120,000 I also had some one from Finland and Germany interested as well. Down side is there is no UK importer any more, although I believe there is a dealer in Ireland, they are highly sort after and well represented in other country's. Only reason I have sold it is that I fancy going over to the dark side for a few years whilst I am young and fit enough. Would I buy another, definitely, when I decide to return to motor boating. My cousin and mates run Sealine's and they have encountered far more problems than I experienced. Have a look at there web site www.galeon.pl to see the specs, I think a new one will be about 230,000 euros with decent size engines so they are a bargain second hand. Problems I have had was a broken fly bridge screen when it was delivered, delivery company where responsible for breaking it, and have had to pay to replace it, a faulty power trim motor replaced by Volvo under warranty, pitting on the power trim rams, and have recently replaced the battery charger that went faulty,oh and a shower sump float switch, that is it. I don't consider this bad for four years ownership.

Interested in your point about overseas buyers.....where did you advertise to get such a broad response???? I am willing to discount my boat to get a quick sale but knowing where to post it would be good.

overseas buyer ?

"Interested in your point about overseas buyers.....where did you advertise to get such a broad response???? "

ditto the above posted on thread - would also be interested in info as we have a Nimbus to sell - which may find a good home to a scandinavian etc buyer even though its based in Mallorca !

Happy to read thread reply or pm if you can
Thanks

Hi,

That is a tough section of the market and mostly more demand than supply! However as you will end up putting it in a 12m Berth push the size up a little and fill the berth. I would recommend an Antares 11.80, Jeanneau Prestige 36 and a Sealine F37 or even a Cranchi Atlantique 40. Now these are pushing the price limits but in todays Market you can still get a deal....with Leg work

My Preference would be a Prestige 36, as I nearly bought one before deciding to go larger.

The one I did a deal on was a 2003 model with Kad300's, New Raymarine electronics, all safety gear and the deal I did was less than £100k! If you, or anyone else, wants the Details PM me. It is a great deal and I have no connection, just know the boat inside out and although it is in the South Med at that price it is worth sticking it on a Ship back. Also you could keep it in Gib for the winter and use it....

Just a thought

Paul

Over sea Buyers

I advertised the boat on Apollo duck, and also put it on brokerage with sunbirdyachts.eu who have brokerage offices in Turkey and Majorca as well as Scotland, They advertise extensively on the web,I thought there would be a stronger chance selling it in the EU, because of the strong Euro. Also why you have it on brokerage with them they throw in a half price berth in Clyde marina, which would have saved me £2600 if I had kept it there for the year, compared to what I was paying at Largs Yacht Haven. They also tell you to pay the berth fee monthly rather than annually at no extra cost as they work it out pro rata. You can also put the boat on hard standing for free if you do not want to use your boat. If you happen to find your own buyer for the boat, then they do not charge you any commission,I know this, as my cousin had the same deal and managed to sell his boat himself. They are willing to negotiate the commission in order to secure a sale, all in all very nice people to deal with. I have no connection to Sunbird, just a happy customer.

How about the Beneteau Antares 980? She has fantastic safe, wide side decks, mid mounted engines on shafts, huge flared bow for stability at sea (visit uTube and search Antares 980 for a quick look at how she performs in rough seas!). A huge flybridge, big enough for 5 adults, twin cabins, 2 D4 225hp diesels, a sliding transom which gives the option of a bathing platform and keeps the boat under 10metres (which in some marinas will save you a few hundred ££'s berthing every year), twin cabins, huge windows offering 360d vision and handles like a dream! There is an ex demo for sale in Brighton, a steal at £125,000!

Thanks zingaro,

Tried sunbird but quoting 10% commission not negotiable due to boat being on Mallorca and high cost of offices in Port Portals !!!!

On with Appolo Duck now.
Thanks

commission

I know they wanted 8% here plus vat, they reduced this to 6%, but we finally settled on 5% plus Vat. Did you try and negotiate with them.
