In the latest MBY (just arrived on these shores), 3 monster 350hp V8 Yammie outboards are tested on the back of a Sessa Key Largo 36.

At nearly 50 knots, the boat is only using abt 23 gallons of petrol an hour!

I thought over 2mpg at WOT was unachievable by anything larger than a 30 footer with diesels!

Is this a mistake?

Lovely warm-weather weekender.

The only sense I see there is the fact you can 'troll around' on the centre engine, with a miserable 350bhp....

"miserable 350" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Unfortunately I don't see the single getting near 30 let alone 50 knots on a 9,000kg (wet, with 3 engines) boat.

Yamaha website is annoying... drop down menus don't let you get to the fuel consumption specs.

Although I can't get to what I want ton the Yamaha website, I found a couple of independent tests that were between 63 and 66 US gph for a twin setup.

The MBY article is VERY misleading. Quote:

"Performance is stunning. With all that power our Sessa rocketed forward with an enormous surge and no flat spots, no hiccups and amazingly little noise. Fuel economy wans't as bad as we had feared. Flat out at 6,000rpm it consumes 115 litres (25.3gph), which on our test boat gave nearly 50 knots"

It is per engine - Jon did the test and I spoke to him about it this morning

Still very misleading.

Regardless, you'd have to live in Dubai or Venezuela to hooley about in that for 6 hours over the course of a weekend. Otherwise you're looking at GBP100K a year in petrol!
