Just saw the start of the Peter O'Toole film adaptation of the Conrad novel. Very beautiful big 3-masted schooner...I wondered which she is or was, in real life.

An internet search is easily distracted by there having been a much smaller, two-masted schooner actually called Lord Jim. That's not the vessel I mean.

Any ideas?

I believe she was "Flying Clipper", then run by a German sail training group. She was built in 1929 as "Sunbeam II", and is now "Eugene Engenides", under the Greek flag, though she hasn't moved in a few years.

The shots on board the square rigger at the beginning, just after the titles, look like the "Danmark". Some carefully-draped tarpaulins disguising the funnel and the radar!

Well, there didn't seem to be a word anywhere about her, even after an internet search...plenty about the film, and about the other schooner coincidentally called Lord Jim...

...but nothing to say which the pictured vessel was. So I'm grateful. :encouragement:
