Having had a Jabsco level switch and a Rule water pump both fail last year, I bought an electronic “Water Witch” bilge pump switch and a new pump last year. The "Water Witch" failed within two weeks. I fitted a second switch supplied under warranty which seemed to work. The boat was hauled out for the winter but on reconnecting the supply to the "Water Witch" today, I found to my annoyance that this one has now stopped working.

Can anyone recommend, a reliable system which I can fit and forget.

Thanks

JC

Been looking into something very similar. I have concluded the way to go for what I want to do is all Rule kit. I am going to fit a Rule bilge alarm and run a std 2000gph Rule bilge pump from it. Rule kit seems to have a good rep.... or it did! This going in a power boat as an aux system to back up the on-board manufacturer Jabsco kit which I think is a bit lightweight.

Before I actually buy the kit, would be interested in other opinions on different makes too..

i have one of "Salty Johns" solid state switches.
its done 14 months to date cheaper than water witch as well, the only down side it has a neg feed, this was a problem to me as i was replacing an Index Marine unit that was pos feed

Thanks for the endorsement, sailorman. The Bilge Mate is now positive switching, negative earth. Bocatech finally saw sense and gave us a positive switching version which is now the only one we stock.

Bilge alarm/sms monitor

I used a Rule float switch for the main bilge, a second float switch (same) for the bilge alarm, and because my boat is on a swing mooring I used a third flat switch connected to an SMS/GPS tracker device that sends me an sms if the bilge gets full and I'm not on the boat. http://www.smart-azz.com cheap insurance. Possible a bit of overkill, but good for peace of mind !
