I would contact Simrad- and see whether they will give you the routine to factory reset the unit. You might find it with a google search. My Silva S15 has a three button hold down affair to get to a secret menu...although knowing Silva it probably doesn't work!

I have a Navman 7100.

You get one chance to put in the mmsi, fail, and it has to be returned to be reset.

Implies that s/h set has to be sent to??? for similar action

I heard that by crossing Purple and Green wires then switching the unit on this resets the MMSI ID.

Interestingly on my NASA the Purple wire is on Pin 8 and the Green is on Pin 5 and this is reserved for Flash re-programming. There is also a Blue wire simply called reset.

Apparently, (according to the chap I was talking to) it's basically what they do when you send it off to the manufacturer to get the ID reset should you make a mistake.

Please be aware though I've never tried this and it's what I was told you could try should something cock up when you enter the MMSI BUT just remember there are no guarentees as to what will happen i.e. reset the MMSI or blow the radio should you try it (although I personally doubt the latter would happen)

I'd check the manual to see what the wires do should you decide to cross them.

BTW I aught to mention that the chap I was talking to was the Instructor on my RYA DSC course.

Most RYA instructors I've met so far have been quite knowledgable about their subject matter.... or was that me being lucky! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nasa talked me through a master reset which removes the MMSI number as well, in an attempt to get mine talking (or listening) to our Navman plotters. The reset involves holding down 2 keys, turning power off/on and entering a sequence of key pushes, none of which I can remeber! But in no case was it necessary to play with connections and I would assume local dealers would know the key press procedure.

Upon getting my new Raymarine 215e radio and turning it on, nothing happened till I guessed an 8 digit number. It turns on now, I also now have an MMSI number. The instructions tell me to send it back to the manufacturer along with a cheque. Anyone know how to reprogramme the 215e???

I can only speak for our kit.

If you need the MMSI changed it is a back to dealer function.
No amount of wirecrossing will clear it.

If you have a tucked up dealer he may well do it for nothing.
Especially if you are getting some new bits from him, maybe the new radio.

As far as second hand goes it may well cost you.

Regards

PM me if you still need the reset. I'm not sure it def resets the MMSI but it does get you to the secret menu....! So the guy at Silva tells me. If it does reset the MMSI I might stick it on Ebay!

Re: Resetting MMSI S15

On the 13.6.2003 data sheet its hold the PTT and CH16 when turning the set on.
The password is 198008.
The mmsi is changed using the <> on the fist mike
Then end press EXIT in the menu the ENT to exit system setup. the restart.
I have never tried it my self but who knows.
It looks like you can also change from UK to USA channels also.
Good luck

Re: Resetting MMSI S15

Can you remove this and PM the interested parties instead. Please.

That way peoples radio's should not end up at boat jumbles or on ebay and it will not be them making the sale.
