Possible warning - Navionics on Android

Now have apk file installed, also ported the original UK&IrelandN8 app over via memory card.
Getting invalid lisence message.
Any suggestions!
Ps new thread on memory map looks interesting.

In addition to the advice above about using the same account, it must also be the same application you licensed using that account.

For example, if you licensed the original version (that downloads all available areas during initialisation) then you cannot use the newer version (that only downloads selected areas when requested), as they are sold as different applications. The same applies to the HD version.

I wanted to buy Navionics Europe for my son for Christmas. I tried all the internet suppliers and the message back was that it had to be bought through the equipment it was to be downloaded onto.

I emailed Navionics and got a reply that had nothing to do with my question.

If that is Navionics attitude, and it appears consistent with the earlier responses, then that is another sale they have lost forever.

As a non-techy person thinking of buying a tablet+charts this has been helpful in finding what not to buy. What charts other than Navionics are available for tablets?

P.S. This site can be useful, but sadly does not appear to have Navionics on it.

Just wondering if they are of Starbucks and Amazon ilk in terms of UK tax??

What may be of interest to potential users is that Navionics clearly told me (once via email and again at the boat show) that if you buy the app for android phones that there MUST be an SD card or else the app will not work. I asked again as many new phones do not have an SD slot, and they repeated the statement that you must have an SD card.

Anyone actually have the app running on phones without an SD card?

I have experience on 8 devices without SD card, and it works well.

Here's why: Android devices typically see their internal storage as an SD card, regardless of whether you can insert a second, physical SD card into the device or not. It's the internal SD card that gives it the large amount of storage (8Gb, 16Gb, etc) compared from an internal memory of 256Mb, 512Mb, etc only. In addition to the internal one, some phones then allow you to insert a physical SD card into a slot.

So, technically Navionics is correct, it needs a SD card - however that could be internal, not necessary an external slot where you can insert it yourself etc.

At the end of the day, this is because charts take up a lot of storage - up to a GB if you download everything - so you need to have space for it.

My Tab 8.9 had an "internal SD card", and Navionics ran on that. The Nexus 7 is different though - it doesn't report it's internal storage as SD - and my assumption is THAT is the reason you can't currently run Navionics on it - though they have promised a fix soon.

Great - thanks for the clarification. Yes, I did see an internal SD reported my my Galaxy Tab, but my current phone due for an upgrade has an external SD slot. I guess I will check out in the store any potential upgrade phone to ensure it has internal memory reported as SD..... current contenders at very low 'upgrade' cost are Sony Xperia T (SD slot), HTC One X (16GB internal, SD reporting unknown) and Motorola Razri (SD slot).

The OneX has a super screen andthe new Sense interface is pretty good, so I will check out the memory reporting.

Thanks again.

Just a reminder that the vast consensus of oppinion is tht if you run into problems with Navionics you are on your own.
Only thanks to advice here was I able to get UK and Ireland back from the dead.
I,m investigating Memory Maps alternative and intend to move to their platform, again thanks to advice here.

I can email the apk file for the non HD navionics UK & Holland if anyone needs it. Pm your email address.

My version of Navionics UK and Holland is corrupted, I don't know why. (Bought in Nov 2010.)

I e-mailed Navionics with proof of purchase but, perhaps understandably, they don't want to mail me the apk due to the age of the charts.

By any chance might someone have the apk file to mail to me?

Its got nothing to do with chart age. They want more of your money.

They disabled the old version. Despite strongly arguing they insisted I cough for new version, which I reluctantly did.

I wish there was a viable alternative. They are schysters.

My UK and Holland stopped working when I upgraded the system to Kitkat. Navonics said tough luck, I will never buy any more of their products.

That's not my problem right now but it will be when I next change phones at which point I'll be happy to buy a later version of the app.

The immediate issue will almost certainly be fixed by a reinstall, and it looks like some forumites have the apk file.
