25Amp Waterproof Deck Connector ?

Hi,

I saw the recent thread on deck connectors but I wondered if anyone here knows of a high current alternative ? I want to route power to the cockpit for my electric dinghy air pump which is rated at 25 Amps and cannot find any waterproof deck connectors with a rating higher than 5 or 7 A.

Any ideas ?

These are rated at 16A 24VDC, but should be adequate for your needs.

You will need fairly substantial wiring to run your 25a pump, to prevent voltage drop.

I fitted one to a ship to allow them to run a portable 24vdc 3000gph bilge pump.

The OP wants a plug / socket combination of 25A rating. While it might be possible to get away with using one with a lower rating it is certainly not good practice. Also your recommended unit only has IP44 protection. The previously recommended Bulgin model is rated at 32A and has IP68 which is much more suitable for an open deck application.

An alternative would be to have all the electrical equipment in a nice dry place and run an air line through any bulkheads instead of a cable.

what pump is it.
it must be one hellava pump to draw 25 amps, almost more than your engine starter motor
my LVM is 6 amp

I have just tested three electric pumps. The Rule iD20, the Bravo BP12 and the Bravo BTP12. The Rule drew 25a on startup and surprisingly, while running. The other two drew 20a on startup and dropped to between 5 and 15a while running.

The Rule is very very fast so it won't be drawing that power for long. It pumped up a single chamber of our 2.6m boat in about 30 seconds before we shut it off while swapping chambers. It only ran for just over 2 mins in total to pump up the whole boat.

There are sockets here that will do up to 20a, (C0217 & C0243) but they are not waterproof and there doesn't appear to be a plug that matches the rating.

The waterproof socket C0216 looks useful up to 16a, but it uses a special plug rather than the ubiquitous cigarette style.

C0214 is waterproof, rated to 16a, and takes the DIN style plugs like the 16a rated C0209 but I imagine the 16a fuse in the plug may be a problem.

Depends on the size of the engine I guess but a 3kw starter will draw around 250 amps at 12 volt, so you are correct.
