Can anyone reccommend a 24v VHF radio (I'd prefer not to use a dropper).

Icom do a good one .I can get the model number on monday night if you need it.
There is probably an awful lot of redundant 24 volt sets knocking around as commercial vessels have been forced to fit DSC sets. Unless you want Dsc I would ring around some of the electronic suppliers in your area and see if they have got any.
We have a 24 volt Sailor DSC set which works well but is very plasticky in appearance ,nothing like the old sailor sets.
