Looking for suggestions for DC motor supplier's for 24v unit in about 4/5kW range that's reversible at about 2500rpm on intermittent load.
Have tried Iskra! any other ideas please?

You are in the range for electric fork-lift truck motors. The controller and power unit won't be trivial particularly with motors from up market trucks. But you may find something suitable from the cheaper end of the market.
This one looks interesting but you need to check on the power & controller requirements;

This is a link showing what an up-market manufacturer can do with the lift motor from one of their own trucks.

:cool:

It sounds as though your looking at electric propulsion; I'd be interested to hear your plans.

HI John and thanks for your reply. I'm not in the market for propulsion! what i'm after is to replace the drive motor for an existing 12v bow thruster unit with a 24v one. Have looked at a lot of FLT parts (used to work for Jungheinrich) but they tend to be either overkill as they are pretty much constantly rated or 'dog' driven and I'm in need of something with a shaft.
The intermittently rated units like what I'm after are quite compact much like heavy duty starters !

Ah OK. I guess it depends how intermittent is intermittent!

The only other motor application area I can think of that might have something is winches.

If you still have the original motor and you are making the change to suit the boats supply voltage rather than increasing the power, then you could enquire about rewinding. Rewinding can be done to change a motor's voltage but I expect the devil is in the detail. If you can get it rewound you'll have a motor that fits!

yeah went down that road but couldn't find a rewind shop that would/could do the change, though to be fair only looked locally and now maybe need to look further afield!
