Mari Cha IV has broken the 24hr distance record for a mono hull and has cleared the 500 mile barrier at 505 miles.

Well done to them, its one hell of a boat.

Now 517

TheDailSail seems to be updated more frequently.

No, I've never been that fast ina nything with a keel (comfortably faster in a Tornado). I expect to go at least that fast in the new boat - but not average it for 24 hours!

I'm hoping to sail back to Jersey some time this week - the met looks as though even with the old boat we might do Needles-Bridge to Corbiere in under 9 hours.... anyone on for a night crossing?

Better again!!

I see Mari Cha has upped the stakes - now 525 in 24 hours, 1020 in 48. To put in context - thats more than 1/3 of the Atlantic crossing in 48 hours - SHEET!
