SWMBO has just returned from the US with a coffee grinder as a present. Only prob is thats got an American 2 pin plug! I've been told as it is 150w I can just put a travel adaptor on it. Can I get it rewired? Where can I get a cheap and small(ish) transformer from?

Its not worth buying a transformer for something as cheap as a coffee grinder, just buy her a 240 volt coffee grinder and tell her not to buy electrical stuff in the USA. Most of the cheap travel adapters sold in the UK are no use at all with US 110 volt equipment as they do not transform voltage. In the USA you can easily buy travel adaptors for that purpose, but the cheap ones are no good for electronic items, being mostly designed to power things like 110 volt shavers from 220 - 240 volt supplies.

As Norman E says pobably not worth it but Maplin do a range . I dont have a current catalogue but the one I have has a 200VA 230V to 110V "converter" for £30. You could check on their website.

For something more industrial Screwfix do a 3kVA one for a bit over £50

Give it to some one working on a building site they have to use 110 V on every thing now. You will have to change the plug to a 110v one. The 115 wattage has nothing to do with it thats what its consummation rating is at 110v.
On the other hand you could buy a site 110v transformer.
No earth required if it is double insulated.
But frowned upon on site work equipment.

There again you can send it to me as I have a 110v tranie. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks for all the advice, especially Colin D, I have ordered the one you mentioned from Maplin. I look forward to my freshly ground coffee! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
