How about removing the motor from the compressor and driving it directly from the engine with a belt and clutch? Something like a car or truck aircon belt and clutch should do. The speed is not so important then.

Tom, thanks for your advice, but as you can see this is an old thread,
we have been investigating many options, and your PTO proposal was what we considered the best solution,
but unfortunotly space around the engines is very limitted, so almost impossible to fit the compressor.
(it is a trailable 26ft '29ftloa boat with twin diesels)
We also wanted to have the compressor remaining more or less mobile as I am seriously over weight with the boat on the trailer.
Our final solution and what I have now is the compressor with a Honda petrol engine in a removable box.
When we trailer the boat for a diving trip, the compressor box is in the car.
Making the final box from alluminium is a winter project.

Another option would be to put several pictures and a comprehensive description onto a web page, plenty of free space about if you need it. You could then place a listing on Ebay, linking to the web page and a link here to the Ebay listing. Having it's own web page removes any Ebay constraints about picture numbers, sizes and quality, as well as limitations with wordings and layouts.

Better than a web page of your own, use Squidoo. Completely free, no hosting costs etc. If you want to see an example of what you can do on Squidoo, click my signature below. If you don't find it suitable, you will at least have a good laugh....
