I have posted an add in the wanted section as well, but this forum gets a bit more exposure.
I am looking for an aluminium mast about 22ft long for a small yacht and I am keen to get peoples ideas where to find one. I have been to various boat yards, kept my eyes open to find a small derelict boat, contacted sailing clubs and rigging companies. Not too sucsessfully, but I am sure somewhere in a pile of old masts and rigging or in someones back garden there is a mast that I can use on my hurley. Please help me finding it!

Perhaps it would be a good idea to fill in some detail in your profile. Your location, boat location and boat type would all be relevant information with a query like this.

The yard I am based at has broken up several small boats, and I am sure others will have as well. The masts are probably still about.

Dont forget you will almost certainly need the boom to go with the mast. The mast step/ tabernacle as well probably.

Don't completely discount the idea of buying new mast stock. Mast extrusion wasn't all that expensive years ago and if you intend to keep the boat it will give you confidence to have new material. Of course there are a lot more fittings etc then to be added. olewill

Thanks for your response.
Yes, I have seen the first one on ebay, but unfortunately it is a dinghy mast and though a Hurley Silhouette is a small yacht (17ftish) I would like to go with a mast that keeps its profile over the whole length.
The second one looks like a dinghy mast as well.
Thanks again and if you spot anything else I am still interested.

Hi Steve,
Could you give me some more info. The boat it is going on is a 17 ftish Hurley Silhouette. I am not keen on a dinghy mast. According to the Hurleys website the original mast is 22ft tall. I have got sails and boom, but wouldn't mind if the right mast comes with boom and sail, possible rigging and roller furling forestay. However, think that is a bit tooo much to ask for, happy to rescue a suitable mast only. Which boat is your mast coming from?

Jim Lad and I both know a bloke who has converted his Silhouette to Junk rig.

As a result he has for sale a complete rig including brand new rigging for sale. He is in North Devon. If your interested I have sent you his email by private message.Click on the flashing red and white flag that appears.

Hi Jim
I looked at their wanted pages back a few weeks ago and was in touch with the guy who was in the some position I am in. Was very helpful but still leaves me with no mast. Will place an advert there as soon as registration got through.

Hi Vic
Thank you for your response. I wanted to keep my search as wide open as possible and therfore did not include location and boat type, since there are numerous small yacht mast around that could fit my Hurley Silhouette, that is in Exeter at the moment. Yes, and I will fill in these details in my profile if I find out how...
I found a few boatyards with spare mast for sale (sometimes I found them by just nosing around, emails to boat yards were not really successfull) but so far I haven't found the right one.
I would appreciate if you could point me into the right direction if you now about a boatyard that recently broke up a small boat.
It is a taberacle fitting that I would like to keep, but I am up for changing the fitting if necessary
Kind regards
Sabine
