Sadly, West Mersea YC busy that night, and Company Shed shuts at 5pm.
We could go back to the Coast Inn, but personally I fancy a change.

I am proposing the Colne Yacht Club in Brightlingsea, as the moorings are easy, the accomodation for those that need it is plentiful, and it is another kid friendly venue.

The fare is standard, not Posh, but its good value and reasonably presented.
I will of course post the menu when they e-mail it to me, so we can pre order like we did last year, which saved loads of hassle.

So, just to reiterate, who have we got coming this year?
How many kids
Who needs rooms?

There's a possibility Santana may make it, subject to weather, crew etc. We did cancel a trip to Bradwell though last weekend because we didn't fancy coming back with potentially F7 up the chuff - not fun or wise with a deaf 13 year old Border Collie aboard. Had a day trip to Wrabness instead on Saturday.

Have been asked to cruise in company with a friend's Halcyon 27 that weekend, so will suggest Brightlingsea as a possible destination. Certainly works tidewise for us from the Deben, (tho' had maybe better check my tidal height assumptions with Neil to be sure?).

Will confirm or otherwise in due course if that's OK.

I'm of course absolutely certain that it was east coast sailing at it finest where we really understand tidal heights, and use every available scrap of depth to its best advantage...... or something like that anyway....;)

PS... I can come and service your steering gear while we are at it.... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Hope you all have a good evening - looking forward to incriminating piccies on here...

(We'll be awa' north of the border, doing our parental duties as the SWMBO-ette settles into her new flat in Edinburgh)

Anyway, we're not yet laying the boat down...or up...or whatever

The MoodySabres are coming.

The water taxi should still be running on a Saturday night /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Groups of 6 boats or more can book berths so if the forecast looks good then perhaps we ought?

Neil - it's actually a case of the pot calling the kettle back. I really shouldn't be making sarcastic comments about others' tidal heights calculations when I put Santana firmly on the Andrews Spit last month. We'd motored back from Nieuwpoort in no wind at all on the penultimate day of our hols, and were going to spent the night in Secret Water. However a sailing wind got up, and we enjoyed the sail up the Walton Channel so much we decided to go about and sail to the Deben and hang around as it was possible to get in before dark. The decision may have been influenced by rows of boats at anchor as far as the eye could see.

Despite having sailed between Landguard & Woodbridge Haven at least 100 times each way in the last decade, I managed to firmly park her on the very hard sand. We got off (rising tide) but not before I had taken the sail off her. The worst admission is that immediately before grounding Julia said that the echo was reading 00, to which I replied, "you don't want to pay any attention to that - we're fine here".

I'm a little more circumspect now!

Seriously, it was pretty horrid feeling the keel being thumped down on the bottom a good many times.

Ooww sounds nasty? Where exactly is the Andrews Spit?

The shallow bit just east of Landguard Point outside Harwich Harbour. There's actually a pretty large shallow area if you look at the chart, but I'm not sure whether the name Andrew's Spit applies to all of it, or just the obvious bit close to Landguard.

The norm is either to go well outside it, by crossing the shipping lane anywhere between Beach End green / Landguard north cardinal and the recommended crossing point further out, or use local knowledge (ha ha) and sneak close by Landguard Point and inside the shallows. Despite having shoal draft, I shall henceforth be paying a lot more attention to the state of tide when I'm around there.

I should like to come, but don't think I will have my boat on the water - or in service - then. So unless I can hitch a ride with someone else, I shall have to decline. Many thanks for the boathook. Mrs Summer Solstace has taught us the 'no boathook mooring picking up technique' so I am considering superglueing the new boathook to the toerail where its function will be purely decorative. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Many thanks Neil /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
I aplogise for the late arrival to this thread , but then everyone's getting used to me being late /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
It looks like the problems that stopped us attending the events of the last weekend will be sorted well before this little get together so very much looking forward to it

Unfortunately, it's now about 1.5 hours drive from burnham and SMWBO has put her foot down and said it's too far. I'll keep an eye out for a closer event.

Steve

Buggeer - Colne have another function! Suggestions please?

Colne YC cant do our little function as they have a wedding on 20th.

Is there anywhere else that could accommodate 20 or so on the 20th? Not the Kovalam, curries+kids?????

Alternatively, where else could we go for this?
I can offer the Royal Corinthian Burnham On Crouch, but its not very central to East Coast.

Titchmarsh?
Tollesbury?
Shotley?
Deben?
Heybridge?
Bradwell?
Anywhere else?
