My boat has now 18hr on it, so i am trying to book it in for its first service,
My problems start here, We bought the boat from a dealer in Swansea, the boat is now moored in Loch Lomond, so its not handy to take it back to the dealer. I have been recommended a mercruiser dealer in my area, who i have spoken too and would prefer me to take the boat out and tow it to them., But i don't have no trailer!! They said they can go to the marina to service it but it would cost a packet and the boat would also need to be lifted out so as they can check the leg.

What should be done in a 20 hr service, I know the main one is an Oil change, but what else?, The engine is the 5.0 mpi with a bravo 3 leg, is it always comon practise to check the leg? and what do they do to it? Should its oil be changed?

Cheers...

20 hours seems like a bit of a compromise for the leg - Bravo III has a 50 hour first service interval for the basics including engine/drive alignment, oil etc. Don't know about your engine though - but 20 hours seems a bit early.
Borrow a trailer just to have boat out on it for mechanics or even hire one - 20 quid to someone else who has one should do it up there!

I know the feeling. I had exactly the same with a 1st service (10hr) on a Yamaha outboard on a 23ft untrailored boat. The lift out and engineer travel cost more than the service. Dont think there is any alternative unfortunately.

You may wish to check as Volvo is between 20 and 50 but no more. Most charge you travelling time to the marina, and I am sure you get charged whether they do two or three at the same time! My service consisted of an oil & filter change, a twang of the belts and loads of WD40. Mind you they did find that my rev counter was set for a V8 not a V6, hence the low revs!

Was yours out the water, Pete?
Did they do anything to the leg?

Cheers..

No, it was in the water and he didn't look at my leg /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif If I had know I would be charged for travelling time I would have popped it into them whilst I had it out for a South Coast weekend. I was told that he does the leg at the annual service.

Have a look in your service manual, should give details of what should be done at each service. The first service on a Volvo leg is two years.
