Thanks. The info you provide on your site is really useful. I am particularly appreciating the tidal streams at the moment, while I am planning my first ever passage round Portland Bill, bringing our new boat from Plymouth home to Southampton.

You should be well off Portland if going direct from Plymouth, or are you going the scenic route along the Jurassic Coast?

As Sandy says, from Plymouth stand off the Bill, it's almost a straight line to Poole / Solent once your round Prawle Point.

Our current plan is Plymouth-Brixham-Weymouth-Lymington-Southampton. Crossing Lyme Bay is a long haul, so we don't want to extend much beyond that. Hence we will need to get close to the Bill so I have been doing lots of reading about the inshore passage vs offshore.

Ok, but from Brixham, don't aim for the end of the Bill, aim for the Coast watch building and the current will take you around.
