Renewal done over the phone in ten minutes as usual!

Now, more importantly, what colour is it? I want a Red one to go with the 'Red room of pain'...

Yes, me too -

Seems like a lot more caveats and extra declarations over the BSS "cover.
I thought the price increase was huge; had I lost the tender discount? I checked last year's bill and of course the increased percentage was as advertised.

Funny, innit, when there's no fuss you just take the increases on the chin and don't notice. However, going back a few years, the increases are huge...

Interesting to see the note about accommodations.......

You can get a red one but you wouldn't want one - although Chris_d may need one for a while! I believe they are reserved for boats afloat without a current BSS Certificate to allow time to get it sorted.

Times change and so must attitudes.

I belong to a club that had a reduced membership fee for those over 60 years old and a reduced fee for husband and wife membership - decisions taken when the club was first formed many years ago when the majority of the members were single and in their 30's.
One day somebody woke up to the fact that membership had become mainly married couples and the vast majority were over 60, and that few were paying a full subscription.
Moving to a more realistic membership fee structure was painful - but it had to be done !

However, it was the committee (management) that were most reluctant to raise the issue with the members at large fearing revolt and dissension. In the event, once the situation was explained clearly, the members wondered why it had taken the committee so long to bite the bullet. They then voted to raise the subs even higher than the committee (in their timidity) proposed!

Seems my earlier post was misinterpreted (probably my fault for being a little obtuse in my analogy) as it was nothing to do with boat clubs or membership fees.

What I was trying to say is that the economics of the river have changed greatly in the last few years and there is clearly not going to be enough money available in the forseeable future to maintain the river and provide the levels of service we have been used to. Not that many years ago there were over 15,000 motor boats paying licence fees, today it is less than 10,000 which represents a huge drop in revenue even taking into account the year on year rises of around 5%. Add to that the governments determination to further reduce grant aid funding and we are going to have to get used to a different sort of river. If we/you don't like that what are we actually going to do about it?

Crazy, isn't it, that money needs to be spent to collect money due? Average cost of an annual licence is probably less than 10% of the actual cost of having a boat and using the river yet it seems to be the licence fees that create the most angst when it comes to cost increases. Anyone looked at their gas and electricity bills recently?
