I have purchased a lovely 2003 Rodman 800 Flybridge , unfortunately as these boats are built in Spain it only came with an owners manual in Spanish. I would like to buy or borrow an English manual either to keep or photocopy & return. My boat is fitted with twin Volvo Penta turbo diesels on shafts. A new manual from the dealer is ridiculously expensive when most manufacturers supply replacements free. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. (Dealer?)

As RBS Marine is a British Company based in Birdham Pool Marina, Birdham Pool, Nr. Chichester PO20 7BG, United Kingdom they would be the first people to contact?

Maybe you should contact the Rodmans 800 owners club or the Rodman 800 Owners Forum?

Hi guys, the people at RBS Marine who are the agents/dealers for Rodman Boats UK were very helpful, but unfortunately they have to charge the price quoted by the Rodman company in Spain for a replacement owners manual which is over £200. I don’t even need the manual for the engines as that is already in English, I only need the manual for the boat.. Thank you for your replies.

Thank you for your reply. The UK Agents/dealers for Rodman boats were very helpful but unfortunately they have to charge the price for the replacement owners manual as set by the Rodman company in Spain which is over £200.00. I only need the manual for the boat as I already have the owners manual for the Volvo Penta engines which is in English.

Yes, that may be an option but sometimes things don’t translate too good. I will keep this as plan B. Thank you for taking the time to answer my problem.

Hi again Davy_S . Re your suggestion that I scan & translate, I forgot to mention I am a pensioner & not very computer savvy, but if all else fails I am sure I can find a young friend to sort that for me.
Regards Robert

The Rodman 800 is a fairly simple boat, and I can't imagine there's much in the owner's manual of interest except perhaps a wiring diagram, and I think it would be easy to get a Spanish diagram translated.

Could you not simply scan the document, then use a page translator and print it off?

No that wouldn't work. The computer would see the page of the manual as a picture, not as text.

If you could find an "on line" manual (pdf) in Spanish you could use a translator to translate it into English.

If you had an Optical Character Reader (OCR) that would be different.

Widely used as a form of information entry from printed paper data records – whether passport documents, invoices, bank statements, computerized receipts, business cards, mail, printouts of static-data, or any suitable documentation – it is a common method of digitizing printed texts so that they can be electronically edited, searched, stored more compactly, displayed on-line, and us........)(Wiki)

I did not need to translate them, i was simply replying when you said, the scanner would see the text as a picture, it did not, it scanned as text, i have a page translator and a sentence translator on my PC, if i saved the scanned document to my PC, i feel sure it would have translated it. i cannot see why it would not, unless i am missing something.

OK you have OCR (Optical Character Recognition) which surprises me. But I just did a search and obviously you have the software installed (You are way ahead of me!) I wonder how many people would have t access to the app though?

I have just switched to Windows 10 and it is just about the most stupid thing I have ever done. Apparently I'm not Robinson Crusoe,

Very odd! I am using Linux and a basic HP printer, as far as i am aware i have not installed anything, it simply works, we carry copy passports when overseas, it scans and prints them, no problem.:)

I wonder if we are talking about the same technology?

Twenty years ago I used to put together text material for business courses. Once I saw an excellent explanation of a particular matter from another textbook (which was not copyrighted) so I scanned the text using Optical Character Recognition which converted the printed text to digital text. I then made changes to dates, place names etc and incorporated that into my textbook. That of course saved me from keyboarding the whole text into my textbook.

With my scanner I can scan a textbook/passport/driver's license but as a picture and print it wherever I like. If I had the OCR software I could convert whatever is written on the textbook/passport/driver's license into text. Then I could change the font of the text, change the wording or translate it into a foreign language.
