Hello,
I have just drained my gearbox oil from my outboard to find the oil milky. I have just bought it and am not to sure where i can order this seal from or how to fit it, thanks

There are several seals that could be causing the trouble
They are shown on THIS DIAGRAM if the link works. Hope that's the right one. Difficult to be certain when not told the full model code

The seals on the prop shaft #16 are the most likely to be damaged

but the seals on the vertical drive shaft #5 could also be leaking

Even the sealing washers on the level/drain plugs could be at fault if they have been reused.

You should be able to find a dealer via the Yamaha website to obtain the parts. Also replace any other gaskets or O rings you disturb.

Note carefully how both the propshaft and drive shaft seals are actually two seals fitted back to back.

Just possible they are standard seals that could be obtained from a bearing stockist but dont hold your breath on that idea.

Website for the parts list is http://parts.yamaha-motor.com/?ls=outboard but strictly it is for engines sold in the US Sorry dont know of an equivalent UK site

Propshaft seals should be simple enough to replace but the drive shaft seal will be rather more difficult. If you have to drop the gearcase to do that also do the water pump at the same time

I also have a 4hp Yamaha and as VicS says No 16 are the most likely cause (fishing line picked up by prop and screwed into seals)I was advised by an outboard engineer to remove the old seals and to go to the local bearing suppliers and they would have them .I did and they did and they cost peanuts. if possible reuse the old seal springs on your new seals as they may be stainless (only important on the outer seal).

I agree with the above as that is the one that went on mine. Best place for Yamaha bits is BHG marine in Lymington - they will do mail orders.
