I have just bought my first boat a 14 foot fletcher with a mercury classic 50,
I live near the lake district and would like to practice low speed stuff there but i have heard 2 strokes are not too welcome can anyone tell me if this the case and which slipway is most novice friendly?
Thanks Dennis.

There are no restrictions on the type engines used in the Lakes, however you can only use power craft on Windermere, Ullswater, Derwent Water and Coniston. The easiest slipway in the lakes is at Ferry Nab on Windermere, wide enough for 3 boats and a nice shallow gradient. You will need to register and buy numbers, and pay for launching and parking. There are no charges for launching/registering on Ullswater but the slipway is just natural shale/rock.

Try www.boatlaunch.co.uk for good info on slipways.
