Lidl are currently selling a telescopic outdoor broom for £4.99 :-

The broom head is quite wide, really too wide for a deck brush, but it's wooden, so it's easy to unscrew the handle fitting, saw the head in half, and reattach the handle base, with the bonus that you get a spare head - or a scrubbing brush! The bristles are angled left and right, if this was a problem then 5 minutes with a hot air gun would straighten them out. I haven't tried it on deck yet, it may be necessary to trim the bristle length a bit to improve stiffness, but they're quite stiff as they are. Should be a good replacement for the one that was accidentally kicked overboard by my crew as we left Newtown River...
