I have a 2.5 Marina bought new beginning of the season , my question to all you owner’s of this engine is what should the cooling flow of water be like from the small rubber tube at the rear of the engine, it has never been much more than a good dribble, the owners manual say's just to make sure that there is water coming out when the engine is running , I flush it in fresh water after each use and it has never given any problem, but I am a born worrier and when I see water literally gushing out of the cooling system of some engines I start to fret.

I have athe same, but older, engine than yours and it only gives a dribble as well. When I bought it a coupIe of years ago did replace the impellor, and as the pump body was scored, the pump itself. I also took the leg off and cleaned the waterways at the top. I don't bother flushing out much and the flow from the top has always been the same. Don't worry about it.

When I first ran my newly purchased, second hand Mariner 2.5 in a drum of fresh water I got no flow of water at all from the rubber tube but did get a bit of steam. I'm a bit reluctant to admit this but I blew as hard as I could through the tell-tail rubber tube until bubbles came out from the outlets on the shaft. When I restarted it, I got a good flow of water from the tube. I'm not sure what was achieved by blowing but it worked! I suppose I should say "don't try this at home".

Looking at all the replies (perhaps not my own) this thread looks like a load of old guys exchanging views about the state of their prostates.

Same engine.
After a year, became a dribble.
Rubber off, and I could see a small stone blocking the exit hole.
Piece of welding wire and I couldn't get stone out, but stone did get poked in.
All has been fine ever since.
Maybe it eroded to a smaller size and was expelled?
But IMHO you should have a good flow.
Feel the cylinder head or get a temperature wax crayon (from marine engineers) to find out how hot cylinder head is getting if you are worried.

Dribble from my Mercury 2.5 also (I think the same engine apart from stupidly expensive labels). No problem until block outer jacket split and engine now useless.

Trouble is the replacement Honda is noisy oily and gutless.

Maybe the answer is to give up and get a marina berth, or go back to the old Seagull. Had it with overpriced modern kit.
