Ive finally taken the plunge and bought my first boat, a Sailfish 18, and am itching to get on the water, having done a bit of sailing on Windermere i thought this would be a good place for a first sail, pleanty of room etc. From sailing experiance on rented boats, i noticed that all boats have "registration" type numbers, can any one help with information regarding the "paper work" needed to sail on windermere.

also any info on moorings/berths available for a weekends sailing would be helpful.

Thanks

Adrian

A fine applies if you have an engine and do not register. Go to the warden's office at Ferry Nab. You register there - it's cheap if you have an engine under 10 h.p. (From memory it costs about £10 for the year, plus registration numbers which have to be displayed). They register you while you wait.

This is also the place to go if you want a swinging mooring, dinghy storage, launching etc.

We had two seasons on Windermere, it was great. They say if you can sail in the lakes you can sail anywhere, lots of wind shifts and interesting weather conditions. Never managed to work out the tides though!

Enjoy the sail.
