Starting to plan for our first trip across to Holland from Hartleppol dring the summer. Anyone got any reccomendations on Pilot Books and/or websites that may be useful?
I guess your first port of call will be Den Helder and into the Waddenzee. Visit
the islands of Viieland and Terschelling and the port Harlingen. If you get into the IJsselmeer fantasic cruising ground.
Good Pilotage.
For all these you need to use the Dutch Charts which are a collection of about 6 charts in a folder.
Are you going for holiday or there and back job.
Lots of people have done the trip from Hpl marina, try speaking to Dave "petonjon", Tony "tzu" George "poly of hythe" to name but a few I'm sure they will help. Most tend to do it on the North Sea race organised by Scarborough Yacht Club (more a cruise in company than a race)

Was there something in this month's YM on Vlissingen (apologies for spelling) in Holland? I also think there may have been something in an earlier edition about crossing Holland on a canal.
The charts you need are a Folio of detailed charts of the area described by the title, published by the Hydrographic Office of the Royal Netherlands Navy (Dienst Der Hydrografie). These are published annually in new editions, usually in March. Exceptionally good value and essential if cruising in Holland.
You have to order the chart folios from someone like Kelvin Hughes
ie: bookharbour.com
The charts for holland are known as the 18XX series.
You can order as electronic charts (simple plotting software included) via www.stentec.com
These guys also sell some nifty PC based plotting software.
Please be aware that the 2005 charts will not appear before march/april.
Last year they also sold the paper version via the webshop. I did not find it just now on the site, but you could mail them.
Let us know when you will harbour in Dordrecht, we'll arrange a nice spot for you!
Check this site out. The scanned charts are old (not for navigation) but you can make a start on planning your dutch holiday. Is the web great or what, wish it was around when I started sailing.
Do make sure the Dutch charts you buy are the current years edition. The sands wander about and even the current editions can be inaccurate when you come to use them.
I don't know how to get up to date corrections though.
