Looks like some fluid (water or fuel) had entered. When turned against compression it blocked, when you opened decompression lever you pushed most of it out and were lucky. Question remains why/how did it get in ? Leaking injector is one cause for a bit of fuel, which from your story looks the most likely to me. If it was water, it is normally so much that you have to do more to get it out and running again.

Sounds like fluids in the combustion chamber. Would take of the head and check the head gasket. Had similar problem. Leak was too small to cause major compression loss but did still suck water in after the engine was stopped.
