1GM10 fuel lift pump

It looks as though my fuel lift pump has packed in as there's very little 'suck', and what there is disappears with an audible hiss over a few seconds (thumb over the inlet port).

Having just $hat myself on discovering the cost of a new lift pump, does anyone know if the diaphragm can be replaced, and where I can get one?

How have you discovered this - Are you trying to bleed the system after a filter change and trying to suck fuel up and through to the engine?

If this is the case then maybe the cam lobe is in the position where it has turned the pump so it's at the top (or mid-point) of the lift already. Have you tried turning the engine over (a few degrees at a time) and tried the lift pump again?

If this is the case then maybe the cam lobe is in the position where it has turned the pump so it's at the top (or mid-point) of the lift already. Have you tried turning the engine over (a few degrees at a time) and tried the lift pump again?

Problem arose when engine cut out after running on load. I know about the cam lobe / lever arm issue and that's not the problem. Disconnect the suction banjo, put thumb over hole and operate the priming lever and the suction is very low; certainly not as strong as I've felt in the past.

My tank is below the engine (no room for a header tank).

Another question: Any reason why I can't connect the lift pump suction to the tank and connect the lift pump discharge to the CAV filter/coalescer inlet; then connect the Cav outlet to the on-engine fuel filter?
Advantages as I see them are far fewer joints on the suction side. It's easier to find a positive pressure leak than on a vacuum connection.

If you can't find a replacement diaphragm, there's a new pump on eBay for lots less than some. Number appears to be the same as the 'genuine' pump:

Well done, and I'd be very interested to know your views on it when it arrives. I may get one myself as a spare. Not much point in buying a used one at that sort of price.

I assume you bought the £50 one -Yanmar 124070-52011 LIFT PUMP FEED PUMP ?

Glad you are all up and running. I'll buy mine now :D:D:D

I also got my new starter motor today, from a local supplier, and for £90 instead of the £240 'they' wanted! Pays to shop around sometimes.
