Hi all,

I am still a novice to boating. This is my 4th boat, having previously a 21' Bayliner, a 18' Sea Ray, and a 27.5' Bayliner. I just picked up a 1995 Chris Craft 18' Concept that needs some loving. It comes equipped with a OMC SX Cobra (Volvo style) 4.3L V6 and an OMC Outdirve... although I am not sure of the model number of that.

Any suggestions on interchange, or where to find:

The power steering pump. Pulley is froze up... pretty sure I need it replaced.
The alternator. I'm thinking about just sending this out to have rebuilt.
The carb needs replaced/rebuilt. It works, but is dirty.
Plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Is this autozone stuff, or west marine or... ?
The steering and throttle cable both were near impossible to move and bound up, but are starting to move freely now.
For the oil change, what oil and what filter?
The antenna mast is broken off.
It's missing the center door leading to bow.

For the cover, I'm thinking about this:

It has a Bimini top, but its kind of weird that it doesnt cover that much. Here are some pictures:

Brm Brm Brm you could probably pour a lot of petrol through that engine if you really tried. It is the kind of boat that is really popular around here. Also the kind of boat that has caused state government to introduce all sorts of manadatory requirements for boaties. Skipper's Ticket Safety gear etc.
I must say that there is tendency around here, away from the stern drive leg towards the modern outboard motor. 4 stroke fuel injected engines are quieter and more fuel efficent and of course give more room in the stern of the boat. Plus for boats left in the water you can more easily lift the engine leg out of the water.
Our club have gone from an old mercruiser stern drive 18fter in Ali to an outboard powered 19fter for rescue boat. I must say I love it. You can hardly tell the engine is idling which it does immediately you turn the key. We also have a 5metre RIB kept on a floating plastic dock and next to it a 16ft ali with outboard. It is an interesting exercise driving the last 2 up onto the floating platform. Motor straight boat straight approach slowly. When you hit the edge of the platform give it full power and up she goes. (rears up in an alarming manner.) Then hold power while crew climbs off and attaches the winch at the bow. It is all fairly fail safe but very frightening to see. Anyway I am not really against mobos I just like a rag top in stead. Too miserable to pay for fuel.
good luck with the new boat olewill
