Hi Folks,

I'm looking at buying a 1982 Bayliner 27 foot with a 5.7 Mercruiser petrol engine. I'm not exactly sure of the model yet as I have to go to Spain to look at it.

Does anybody know anything about these boats?

Cheers,

Stu

All depends on what you want to want to know about it, it may help if you had a specific question.

Also, for a wealth of info on Bayliners try here:

You can probably find the answer to most questions by searching there, but if not they're a pretty helpful bunch and will usually be able to answer most queries.

Hi abraxus,

I know what you mean, but I don't know that much about the boat myself, I just hoped that if there were any horror stories about Bayliners from that era, or something dodgy about that model of engine, someone might know.

I spotted the boat round the corner from my mates place in Spain at a house that's hardly ever used, I managed to get hold of the owner, and sure enough, he wants to sell. He lives in Belgium and hasn't used the boat in a couple of years.

I'm going to look at her in a month's time.

I have a 1990 Bayliner 2655, with a 5.7 Mercruiser petrol engine and have had no problems in the five years I've had it.

I do know that Bayliner had some reliability issues during the eighties, but couldn't say whether that applied to specific models or across the board.

As I said before, check out the owners club forum and get the specific model details from the owner, there will certainly be people with experience of that model and that age, and they will also be able to highlight any areas that you should look at more closely if you were thinking of buying.

Obviously a survey will show up any major problems, but a 1982 boat that the owner wants rid of and hasn't been used in 2 years is unlikely to cost you much.
