Anyone out there in forum land know the location/fate of a steel round bilge V. de Stadt Marsdiep class yacht built for and then delivered to an English owner in about 1960, She was built at the Gouwerok yard in Holland. Her dimensions would be about 34' loa, 9.6' bm, and was built with a long shallow keel with centreboard, though most have since been converted to a deeper fixed keel. I currently own the 1st of the class built, (build Number 104, 1958) and would like to track down some of the others as the interior has suffered a pretty unsympathetic refit in the past and I would like to restore it to something aproaching the origonal. Thanks in advance, Mike.

Hi
I am a newcomer in this forum and since english is not my first language please ex-
cuse my errors in typing, wording und grammar.

According to the book "E.G.VAN DE STADT; YACHT DESIGN PIONEER" the "MARSDIEP"
to be build in wood was designed in 1959. The steel version from van de Stadt´s
board came only in 1969.
Gouwerok however has built numerous van de Stadt designs. Tracing the history of my
own boat, a 1950 designed "Tulla 1", 36 ft. built in 1962 at the Gouwerok yard, I was talking
to Gouwerok and the van de Stadt office end of last year. I was told that until the mid sixtees a lot of boats have been build more or less just on the basis of lines plans.
Accomodation and deck layout basically was up the owner and/or the yard. Drawings
if produced at all went with the respective owners. To highlight the problem in full,
it has to be said, that buildout work normally was not done by Gouwerok. My boat
for example was done by "Bolder" in Sassenheim. Obviously Bolder did a lot of
buildout regarding Gouwerok cascos. Last summer I met a dutch couple in the Baltic.
Their boat, most likely a van de Stadt "Variant" as well was built at Gouwerok (casco) and Bolder (interior and superstructure).
In my view it would be no wonder if your boat is a "one of". If you feel it would be
helpfull to view "Tulla´s" accomodation drawings just tell me. I happen to have a full
set of drawings regarding my boat.

kind regards

Tulla

Hi Tulla.
Thank you for your reply. I have managed to track down 2 more examples since I first posted this thread. According to the Gouwerok yard where as you were quite right to point out, only the hull was built, Fosca was the first Marsdiep built and that was in 1958 which is a little strange when compared to the book you have. I am lucky in that I have the origonal hull plans which confirm her date and type though sadly none of the interior.
The other 2 examples I have found in Holland both date from 1963 and again are in steel of the 's' spant type. The ones that follow mine are identical but for the later ones having the counter drawn out by approx 2' making the transom a little smaller. I would very much like to see the interior drawings of Tulla as a full interior refit would really improve my boat. If you send me your e.mail address I will send a photograph of my vessel as well as one of the later vessel, 'Dream' which is as you will see a twin of mine.
Regards, Mike

Hi Mike

Have checked the book again! Wasn´t that easy in the roaring sixtees obviously!?
There is a CD-Rom with the book, containing all the drawings available. There are several "Marsdiep" drawings as well. Send me your e-mail adress, I then will try to
mail you those tif. files.

regards
