1913 Silver of Dundee wooden cruiser - HELP!!!

Hi everyone, hoping to find someone who can help me. I have recently purchased the above boat (by default!!) and it is situated on the quays at lancaster. I have tryed every website I can think of trying to find some info about the boat and it's history. ANYONE that has even a snippet of info please get in touch. Many thanks

You rang?? Probably not a Bain, but could be. He would have been a very young man! I´ll have to have a look a my books, but the silver club would be much more help.
Englander is not a silver, but she is a bain, his last design, but far better built than any silver, she was not built down to a price, no expense spared in her construction.
John Bain supervised the material choice and build personally.
There´s a Silver Ormidale for sale on YBW, they want 1/2 mill pounds for it, absolutely lovely boat, but 1/2 a mill??? /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Not a bloody chance! Either that or I have a very low idea the value of mine, so does the surveyor and insurance.
Any chance of a piccie, I should be able to identify it, bit of an anorak!!
I know there is/was a brown owl class 47´, all varnished hull, in Glasson Dock.

Had a look on the way home last night, about 24', looks a bit like a silverette but with a lovely canoe stern.

Hope thats ok 7831, seen this boat for ages, often wondered what she was, hope you get to do her up, she looks reasonably sound, just a tad sad at the moment.

FAUNE revival

Dear all,
Last June I became the owener of MSY FAUNE, designed by Bain at Silver Yards and launched in February 1929. She lies in Malta where I've just put her up for a re-caulking (last one done 13 yrs ago). Any advice on whether to use traditional caulking/sealing or go with new epoxy methods?

Use traditional caulking methods, the boat was designed to be done that way and it´s still the best. Good luck with her, what class is she? I seem to remember her, any piccies?

Caulking, I have to agree with Englander traditional way is best and that will provide a leak proof hull as well!!

Thanks all. Yes, I'd love to post some pics of the process...just need to figure out how as I'm new to this forum. I assume I need to have a web site for this? If so, I don't, but am glad to email anyone the pics.

I'm not sure what class she is - she was a one-time request and only one of her was built, so she may be classless (according to the Silver list).

After lifting her a few weeks ago, I saw she leaked from a seam about 2-foot long where the hull meets the keel beam, about midships. I've stripped the antifouling and begun pulling the old caulking. Question: should I pull ALL the caulking and re-caulk, or only the caulk that looks "suspicious"?

In most cases, the planks are tight against each other, but some have about a quarter to a half inch spread, but just for a few inches long in any place. Here I found rope caulk and beneath caulk with red/orange tint. In a very few spots the wood is a bit soft (water-logged?), but very few spots.

The weather deck also leaks into the cabin area in a few places (bloody hell!), so what can I do here? I've heard wetting the deck and waiting for it to dry - the leaks will dry last. Is this correct?
