The grandfather of a friend in Vigo crossed tracks with Joshua Slocum in mid Atlantic whilst on there voyage from Philadelphia with a cargo of oil.Fromthe photography it looks like a fully rigged ship called La Viguesa.

My daughter is translating the information now.Slocum mentions La. Viguesa in his book and my friend grandfather read the book and was delighted to read about the meeting.Looks like there has been a mis interpretation and La Viguesa was a three masted Goleta with square sails on the foremast...a bergantine?.......apparently my friends grandfather was on watch when they came across Slocum. At the time he was 17 years old and the first mate!

Some confusion over the dates as the book says he set sail in 1895.... but the book recounts the meting with the barkentine La Vaguisa 23 days out of Philadelphia which is correct.
