17v - more than I\'m happy with part 2

This is to update and thank contributors to this post. My meter appeared to be well mannered, but Ashonavega's point in respect of a low battery giving unreliable meter readings sent me to replace it and low and behold my alternater began to give out 14.6 again.

The essence of a digital volt meter is that battery supply goes to a device which provides a standard voltage around 1 v. The measured voltage is compared to this electronically. When the battery gets low the standard voltage goes low. The actual digits and comparator work ok on the low volltage but show a high reading. olewill
