can anyone recommend a PC monitor that can be run straight of 12V, in the order or 15 - 17" display, and draws as little power as possible?

LED screens (not just LED backlit) seem to be claiming to be more efficient than LCD but can't seem to substnatiate this, or for that matter find anything that meets the size and voltage requirements!

Found these low power (LCD I think) but don't seem to be available retail yet:

My Medion PC monitor runs on 12v from a 240v ac/dc transformer I think most others will be the same. You should have no trouble finding a cheap one on Ebay. Cut off the transformer and connect direct to 12v supply.

Bought my Digilogic TV/PC monitor from ASDA 3 years ago, this runs on 12v from a 240vtransformer. I use a DV3 Freeview box made by LOGIK Model LDRI A also uses a 12v unit from 240 to 12v. this allows me to use as a monitor for my PC or TV use. Its a flat screen job. and nees 2 remotes for the selection of channels for DTV/TV or to select the PC. TV works very well with only an indoor signal booster SLXA but a 240v plug to it, as well as a 12v output routed through the digi- box, no external aerial at all.

Thanks for the replies so far.

The cruiser forum thread has some possible options, but I'm still trawling through that. Spyro is quite right, although lots of monitors I've seen have internal transformers.

It might be a case of going down that sort of route, but I was keen to find something significantly better than the common or garden types - we'll be running our business from the boat, so computers will absorb a lot of energy, which is at a premium because everything comes from 200Wp of PV and wind turbine - the engine is an antique gardner with no alternator...

Getting a stable supply is a good point, although should be easily rectified with something like this, which will also benefit the 12V pc:

although again, it's be good to find something nice and efficient!

I dropped an email to the firm I linked to in my first post, still waiting to hear back but I'm not holding my breath.

any other ideas?!

If you don't fancy spiky 14v, use a DC/DC 12v regulator for your sensitive equipment. The TV's are not set up for a computer so the screen looks a bit hickey unless you get HD. You need a monitor if you are going to do serious work. On saying that, there are TV's on ebay, that are sold for caravans. Most of the 12v units have plug in units
