My experience is that a battery in a car is only good for 5 years. The inconvenience of being stranded compared to cost saving by squeezing out the last of it's life is not worth it. Av a noo one. with first sings of failure. ie slow cranking. ol'will

Yes, automatic definitely needs new battery, if not now, will do soon...or carry one of those little jumpstart devices.

If it's not had a new battery since 2008, then I'd get a new one.
Some cars of this era may throw errors if the battery is changed.
My car did, but got over it without a visit to a dealer. After half a dozen journeys, the error lights just went away as presumably the car re-calibrated its battery management.

The old trick - especially with coded radios ....

Pair of jumper leads .... connect new battery to old but still able to undo the battery terminals on old ... remove old battery - put new in place - connect up ... remove jumpers.

Radio / BMS etc. never actioned ... accepts new in place.
