I have a Waeco on the boat, and a Halfords (45 squids) in the car to act as a cooled ferry service between house and boat. There is simply no comparison: You get what you pay for.

That said the Halfords one works OK, but it takes about an hour to reach a decent chilled temp.

2 Types basically ....

The always on peltier jobs that only go to about 15 - 20C below ambient - often reaching +5C and that's about it. Cooler's at best. Continuous heavy ampage draw about 6 - 8A. Available in halfords, Argos .... etc.

Best but far more expensive are the Waeco Fridge jobs .... but they are good. They also are not continuous heavy ampage jobs - but vary depending on work they are doing. 2 guys have sailed on my boat bring Waeco's with them ... both have frozen my beer / milk !!

You pay for what you get ..... cheaper cooler or expensive fridge.

Nearly forgot : The coolers should not be run without engine if you have limited battery supply ! Also beware of light cables to ciggy socket ... the amps may be too much for the cable / socket.

Well we got a Camping Gaz cool box and it is very good, but I would have taken a spare battery along and wired the box to it, then plug the battery into the lighter, to cover the time when the engine's not running. Power drawn not a problem.
