Installed a windlass 2 weeks ago, whilst installing the 100 amp curcuit breaker, as usual i over tightened the nuts. Bloody thing disintegrated. 70 € for a new one. Is there a cheaper alternative.

thanks for your help

Yes there is.
If you look at my post above it concerns a Maplin 100amp 12 volt CB. Go to http://www.maplin.co.uk Either search circuit breaker or put product numbers in...DR92A for 100 amp £9.99...DR91Y for 60 amp says £9.99 but in shop yeasterday price tag said £4.99.

See post about fuses in starter circuits.

A breaker is more convenient in that you don't have to keep a stock of fuses on board and a windlass is quite likely to overload especially if you foul something and decide to give the windlass a thrashing to clear the anchor.

An American "Mega" fuseholder is the cheapest at around £10 and widely available at autoelectric shops but it will drive you mad since changing the fuse is annoying and time consuming. There is a German "stick" fuse holder which is used on many boats for windlasses and uses push in fuses which are easier to change than Megas.

Choice is yours, pay out for a breaker or change to fuses.
