12v/240v TV (ideally with DVD)

Contradiction Perhaps :)
Partly perhaps? But stating a personal preference is not the same as claiming it is the correct way and going on to condemn (explicitly/implicitly) those that do take a TV to sea.
Thanks for the thought. (I would have put one of those thumbs up signs here but it appeared up by the title)
Cheers
Bob

Has anyone even investigated the power consumption of these devices (12 or 240V)? And a simple switch or plug/socket eliminates inverter consumption when it is not needed!

Not with a telly but with a laptop, between maplins 12v - 19v supply and cheap inverter with 240v charger, lost the numbers but it was a hefty difference, the inverter sucking up power even when not plugged into anything.

Not a good idea if there is an option.

We're looking for a 12v telly at the moment - do you know if the Kogans can push a DC supply up the antenna cable to drive a mast-head amplifier? I've just downloaded the manual from their web site, but it says very little about setup.

Our Kogan is hooked up to a Glomex amplifier and UFO antenna at the top of the mast. The amplifier has its own 12V power supply, however I find we often don't need to plug it in. Don't know if that answers your question, though.
