Probably a long shot but i'm looking for the workshop manual to strip down a Volvo Penta 120SD saildrive. Does anyone have a copy i can borrow for a few days?

So far i've drawn a blank with forum search, google. I'd prefer not to buy a manual for one off job - thanks David.

If you don't mind me asking, why do you want to strip it? The leg and gearbox are separate items. If you are changing the rubber gaiter the instructions should be part of the kit. Other than that the only other thing you can refurbish in the leg are the shaft seals and thats a fairly straight forward operation providing you can get the housing apart.

I seem to remember downloading a manual but am finding it difficult to find now, will keep looking and post the URL / Link.

Removed one our twin sail drives over the weekend, planning to replace all bearings and seals as will as the spline coupling.

Bearing and seals from VP AU$500.oo + Got the lot from a local bearing outlet for under AU$100.oo.

...umm maybe this one should be posted in confessions...

Today I did something silly and dropped a pencil down the dipstick hole of the saildrive :-(

Why did I do this? No sensible answer - acted first engaged brain later - I'd drained the oil in the leg, started refilling, lost dipstick, wanted to quickly check the level, foolishly improvised & made expensive mistake.

I was hoping the manual would describe the internal leg casting and drive train arrangement to determine if (1) the pencil would cause a catastrophic failure, or (2) would be wedged somewhere out of harms way, or (3) would be chomped up by the gears allowing the debris removed with frequent oil changes or (4) I should confess all to Volvo Penta.

Will have one last attempt to recover the pencil using a spring claw tool with flexible shaft if I can find one with small enough diameter, though don't hold out much hope of success.

Any suggestions/re-assurance from the forum besides changing my login to 'dipstick' ??

Shouldn't laugh .... but I did /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. It puts my hammering through a hot water pipe when trying to stop a floorboard squeaking into perspective /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

IF the pencil is in some sort of dipstick tube is it worth tying a big blob of blue tack to the dipstick and trying to push that onto the top of the pencil?

Obvious risk of losing the blue tack but if you're careful ......??

Good luck.
