Why not consider an inverter and use bog standard 220v equipment. Works out a lot cheaper in the long run?

In fact if you look carefully at many items that are battery / mains .... you can find those that have 8 battery's to put in the compartment .... that's 12V

So why worry about it, buy a bog standard mains / battery unit that uses 8 battery's and then wire in your 12V supply to the battery compartment .....

You used to be able to buy combination Cassette / Radio / TV units for camping - battery, 12V car-plug and 220V, I bought one from Currys years ago for 59.95 ..... missus won't let me near it now and it stays in the kitchen!

The only trouble with invertors .... they have a standing current draw, normally about 0.2A, even when NOT being used to supply items and need disconnecting .....

All of the TV's that are advertised for marine use are 12 volt. Stereos are a bit trickier. Look at the micro systems at your local discount store. Do NOT ask the salesman....he won't know what has a 12v socket and what doesn't. The clue seems to be the number of watts per channel. The lower it is the more likely it will have a 12v inlet socket in the rear. Both the JVC and Aiwa micro systems have 12 volt sockets tho you have to actually look at the back of each model to see if it has one. Then you order the 12 volt input separately.

I have done this exercise and became incredibly frustrated by the total lack of knowledge of staff in stores selling these products. I have now wired in an Aiwa micro system with RDS (tells you what station you are receiving)CD and cassette player. Around £100....and that was after the salesman told me there was no such thing...and certainly not on 12v.
