11 gun salute

RKJ had a 11 gun salute from the Royal yacht sqadron this morning whilst passing cowes on the way up the solent.

So what is the significance of the 11 guns. does'nt the queen get 21 or something. or did they run out of amo

This is the American way: gun salutes

I think an eleven gun salute is usually reserved for a Commodore.
Although personally I don't see how anyone could mix up RKJ with Lionel Richie!

Maybe it is a RYS thing as RKJ is an Hon Member

The king, as Emperor of India, was entitled to a 101 gun salute.
All salutes have to be in odd numbers, for some reason.
