There are plenty of 'bad service' examples for us to grumble about, but it's worth us spotlighting the exceptionally good. Should there be enuff similar posts, maybe Ybw.Com will publish a selection 'pour encouragez les autres' later in the year. Here's my star of the season....

Arrived in St Peter Port, on an August Sunday morning a week ago, with the mainsail ripped from luff to clew. Asked Harbour Patrol 'Gus' re local sail-repairer, phoned her at 0930hrs, and she picked the sail up at 1230hrs "after church, as I'm not missing that!" The sail was returned to us, fully fixed, and some other frayed seams sorted, by 1800hrs, "....so you can get on with your holiday..."

So - again - thank you, Katy Barrett ( Sail Repairs ) of Guernsey.

St Peter Port seems to be a mecca for people like Katy. We arrived with a failed alternator, a 24V high output Perkins one not generally found in your average chandlers.

The harbourmaster gave us the name of the company onshore who were the local Perkins rep. They could not help but gave us the name of the chap who looks after the local fishing fleet engines, many of whom were fitted with Perkins, who although retired also ran a business rewinding alternators. He drove down to the marina to see and and as a result the alternator was ready a few days later.

Most companies nowadays would immediately try and sell you a new device whereas they were quite willing to put us in touch with someone who would repait the alternator at a much lower cost and a faster turnround too
