1" 7/8 exhaust hose

My mid 1970's boat has an odd sized exhaust, it's 47.8mm which is 1" 7/8 in old money. I want to replace the current set up with a Venus NLP water lock and new hose, which is available in 50mm.

Can I get a gas tight fit by clamping 50mm hose down with good quality hose clamps or is there some other way of doing this?

Hasn't the exhaust hose got steel wire re-inforcement? (Most certainly mine has) You wouldn't be able to clamp it down 3mm. (You have to be careful with exhausts as you could end up gassing you and your crew )

But why can't you use one of these?

You'll probably find a couple of Mikalor bolt clamps will make a good seal.

Should be ok its only 2.2 mm smaller,imagine the 47.8 in the centre of the 50mm you would have a gap of 1.2mm all the way round,
