Can anyone confirm, with a micrometer, the mandrel diameter of any 1/4 pop rivets that they have used?

I have got a Faithfull HD long arm pop rivet gun and the nom 5/32 (.153") mandrels will not fit into the jaws.

If I dismantle the rivet and reduce the mandrel dia by 10 thou it can be made to work. I then have then to dismantle the jaws, after the rivet is reacted, to get the broken mandrel out.

I am pretty sure there is no damage with the tool, I have E Mailed Faithfull but don't hold out much hope.

I don't want to send the tool back if I can help it

Any observations would help. Many thanks.

Mine measure 0.151" or 3.86mm. You certainly shouldn't have to reduce the diameter of the mandrel.

If they are the ones I am thinking off the jaw opening is adjustable. Is there a lock nut below the barrel? - slacken it and turn the barrel in a fraction of a turn to open the jaws. Try a rivet and adjust as necessary then lock off the barrel with the lock nut.

Just a thought. Check again that you have the correct "nose nut" screwed into the chrome barrel. If you have inadvertently used the 6mm instead of the 6.4mm, you will get the symptoms that you described. (I've just tried it).

I hate it when these things just peter out without a resolution, so thanks for the help and suggestions.

It could not be made to work. The jaws were just fractionally shy of fully opening.

I sent it back for a refund. I was not the only one. On Amazon a Mr -- Tuan A. Nguyen -- reports that his did not work and he was (if this man with a striking name exists) very unhappy with the quality. I was not particularly miffed by the quality of the tool, the Faithfull comes with an extended guarantee and perhaps I just got a dud.

Perhaps it was the one Mr Nguyen returned.
