So who do we know that is cruising round UK at the moment, and would £6M make a difference to the cruising finances, discussed on another thread?

If you got the call, would you "do a U turn", and what would be the first upgrade that you would make to the boat, without interupting your 10 week cruise?

I wouldn't "do a U turn", and I suspect that's just journalese anyway. Seems unlikely they'd turn round and sail back home again.

I guess I'd probably come ashore for a week or two to sort out the practicalities, get the mortgage paid off and the money "stowed" in appropriate accounts/investments/etc. Then, actually, finishing the planned cruise might be a good opportunity to take stock and decide where life was now going to lead.

Certainly no qualms about the price of booking the boat into a marina somewhere while I sorted things out :)

Think I would head straight for the nearest marina and moor up. As has been said, get the loose ends and administrivia sorted for a couple of weeks, then on with the trip and continue thinking about what new boat to buy and where to keep and sail it - always fancied Gib or Greece. Though Australia looks nice too.

The only thing I shall change on winning is the picture on my avatar. Now do I go for the 39 foot or 44 foot model? By the way it will not be a Southerly.

I would realize that my cruise was no longer limited to 10 weeks.

They have no children but plan to share some of their good fortune with their family.Mrs Brown said: "This is more money than we could spend in a lifetime and we will have fun sharing our good luck with family and good causes."

I've the same surname, any chance I could be related?;)

Yes I'd do a 'u' turn or make for the nearest port.

Considering what time of the season it was and what weather and conditions were like, I'd probably get all the winning admin done and get back to where I left my cruise and happily plan out the future.

I'd then probably have all the improvements possible done to my yacht in the coming winter and gift it to my son with a monthly allowance to match his present salary and invite him to go seek a new life.

I'd probably buy a new home with an upper Thames frontage, three or four other boats. e.g. A large electric canoe for the upper Thames with a large slipper launch for guests would probably fit the bill. Next, a go anywhere yacht of around 42feet (Rustler??) to be based on the south coast and another fit for purpose 42 footer in the Med'.

Oh, and I'd seek out a totally restored 1963 3.8 E-type Jag. Other than that a moderate comfy saloon and a town car.....

Sorted... :)

They are avid East Coast sailors & cruised & raced extensively, i used to beat then occasionally 30 yrs ago when we both had 26` boats, They owned "Boxer of Burnham" a Hustler 25.5.
A very down to earth couple & will do good works with the money, best wishes to them.
