Not only does this boat need loads of work (fair enough) the seller wants to charge you to view it!

I could sort of understand if the owner needed to jump on a plane, meet you there etc... but all they are doing is making a phone call. They would be better using a broker for this one imho

Any serious do er upper would eye ball it and climb aboard first .
They would have some local knowledge of the yard(s) in the area and available local skill set if needed ?
He’s had a few fender kickers and time wasters by the sounds of it - such is today’s selfy social and media chuckaway society .

The location Spain and its attractions of folks with little behind them going in droves to run bars and other U.K. esq type start up business, so there gonna be a disproportionate number of skint dreamers looking for the next thing to screw up business wise .The area attracts that sort so the selling tactics need fine tuning to weed them ( lots of them ) out .

I don’t buy the illness line ,he’s run out of €/£ ,a failed business or bad planning income stream wise there’s too much “ old man syndrome “ the geny , engines basics , wiring etc. Those things just don,t go like light bulb he’s gradually accumulating them .Now he’s attempting , potentially to turn a viewing fest by e baying it into an income stream .

Being wooden it needs a lift and intensive hull survey so he ought imho offer a refund of the deposit if the viewer progress any further ,eg survey / lift and if the punter is still hooked knock the depo of the settlement price .

On the above terms that should weed out dreamers , chancers , snoopers and folks wanting a day out ( who are local ) .

No different to a steep ( several hundred ) catalogue price at a posh auction .Same effect = serious buyers only please.

It sounds like all those mocking him have no intention of buying which is precisely why he’s raised the entry bar to weed out what otherwise would have been time wasters .

Back in 2005 I was in a hurry to buy a mobo and Sunseeker In Poole had one that fitted my requirements.
Before viewing they asked and I sent a £20000 depo .This was refundable in the event of a no sale .
I organised flights into Bournemouth airport, they sent a driver to pick up / drop off etc , I got a factory tour ,met Mr B and sealed the deal .

How do you know your buyer is serious if you are time short ?

I don’t agree on the time wasters part Porto.

Hardly a day out for most is it. There is no inconvenience factor for the seller as they are not there!

Mostly likely someone made a genuine offer then started getting an idea of the work involved and ran away sharpish.

That boat needs someone like Vas.......maybe he could join them together and make a 100 footer :)

Porto NO ONE!!! is going to pay £500 non refundable to look at any boat ....

If i want to look at the QM2, I can pay less than that for a 2 day cruise!

I,am in agreement.
So save you rereading my post here’s the salient part with one important word changed to cap,s......””

That along with a preview ( as many previews surreptitiously) as the prospect undertakes - then hopefully no time wasters , only guys who understand what aged wood + boats equals.

There’s a big difference giving a company like Sunseeker your deposit pennies (with it all in writing no doubt) than there is some chap of eBay.....that you won’t meet!

Even if he offered as Porto suggested, I personally wouldn’t do it. Buyers have the power in this instance.

I sold my boat last year on the Isle of Man. Had a number of viewings and they all had not insignificant costs in coming to view with flights, hotels etc.... I did everything I could to minimise the costs for them like running them about and buying lunch. I’m 100% sure I’d have had no viewings if I’d have charged anything.....and my boat was mint! :)

The only time waster involved here is the seller.

Otherwise to take his theory forward means any would be buyer must aways buy the very first boat they view. In this case of course the 'boat' in question is very much akin to the notorious Bus Station privvy.

Now where is that barge pole of mine used not to touch things with ? - oh yes that's right I have to pay a £500 fee to SWMBO to use it at all nowadays.

Looks like a distress sale:
