[/ QUOTE ] It's all a question of self discipline. Although I work in HR, I have managed to wean myself off various bad habits and no longer go around interviewing boats when I want a new one..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Does it make more sense to travel by car because the cost per mile is much lower?
A couple of days ago I spent some time queing on the motorway in the fog, listening at insane radio programs, and I called it a day at late night, after reading this shocking post.
On that basis, yes, £40 (or whatever) per mile makes a lot of sense.

Don't count it in £'s count it in time well spent doing something that is great fun and relaxing.

Mmmm - unfortunately the Comptroller of the Domestic Purse would need a more substantial justification.... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Can you get me a Hallberg Rassy with staff discount?

[/ QUOTE ] I wish.

'Fraid it's HR as in Human Remains, though actually I'm a reactionary old git, and insist on calling it "Personnel". What goes around, comes around and I confidently expect to be at the cutting edge of professional practice in about 5 years' time.

Calculate the cost per day spent on board - it should be a bit more palatable./quote]

£366 per day.

Errmm - no, I don't think that will help /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

ah - but there were 2 of you on board? so divide that by two to start with! ... so thats .. £183/day

but can you capitalise any of the purchases this year? or you could put them in as a prepayment - after all, you've got a tank of diesel that you've paid for but have not had the benefit of yet.... and I'm sure you've bought a bottle or two that are just sat there waiting consumption ... any extra toys you've bought? replaced any rigging? (running or otherwise - these will last a number of years) ...

£ per hour on board would be a much more sensible calculation.... and ought to make sense to the Comptroller aswell.

e.g. say you sail 6 miles to a nice anchorage, spend 3 or 4 hours lunching and swimming, or whatever, then sail back.

Only 12 miles, but 6 hours of fun.

I count every second on board as a bonus, whether moving or not, and whether doing "work work" or not.

Depends what kind of a money-pit weekend/track special car you have tucked away in the garage!!! Only reason I keep 'it' is to make the time afloat appear cheaper and more worth while!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
