I was down at Hayling Lifeboat Station yesterday morning - the guys were cleaning up after a busy Saturday where three lifeboats and a helicopter had been searching for a child lost at sea.

It turned out to be a hoax call, West Sussex police are investigating.

Words fail me.....

Wrong figure to be angry about if you ask me

You mention its a £40,000 call out. Ultimatly, its a bit like policing a demonstration or the firebrigade on a shout, the actual cost is unquantifiable and amost irrelevant.

The real reason to get angry here is more the sheer number of people involved put at unneccessary risk. OK, so Saturday was a nice day but putting a life boat in the water and a huey in the air carries inherent risk and people have been put at risk purely fo the amusement of some d1ckhead.

lets hope he is caught and publicly punished, because the next time someone does this the conditions may not be favourable and the personal risk to those involved could be much higher. £40,000 is nothing, I just ope a life is never given due to a 'prank'.
