Went to the boat show on Sat. Park and ride was unavailable, until they had filled the main car parks. At the gate we had to say how many hours we were planning on staying at £3 per hour or £15 for the day. The normal ticket machines were not in operation. The guys on the gate were getting a lot of abuse from motorists who like me considered this a considerable con. Basically until you got to the gate you didn't realise what was going on and then had a stack of cars behind you and had little choice about paying. I complained to the conference organisers who were pretty surprised and raised it with Excel who were in charge of parking. Totally unacceptable. I for one will not be returning next year. £47 for the day out before we even bought anything!

According to the panel on p125 of the Jan PBO parking is £9 per day. If £9 is what they advertise then that is what you expect to pay so start asking for a refund!

It's outrageous, and they wonder why LIBS is losing support.
The organisers really should be looking at another Venue, preferably the NEC which is a lot cheaper for most things and easier for most people to get to.

Weird, went Saturday.

We parked in purple section for £12, used the normal machine. Arrived at 9:30, left at 18:30.

Dreadful if their tactic was to fill the pricey carpark before operating the park and ride. I did wonder what they were up to.
All the mags had the price wrong - max £9 - that was last year's price. Looks like Excel wacked up the price at the last minute. I'd imagine that the show organisers will be hopping mad.

Just checked on the LIBS website and 'Park & Ride' is not advertised at all. Nor is there any obvious way of contacting Excel to ask.

Seems the tactic is to fill the expensive places first. Makes me think about going, and I have a free ticket!

Kieron, was it you I spoke to on the stand? I raised your complaint with National Boat Shows and they are still trying to track down what's gone wrong. Basically it seems it's not National Boats Shows fault but there has been some sort of communication breakdown. I am still awaiting a definitive response from NBS/ExCell and will post as soon as I have an answer.

Bottom line is, people shouldn't be paying £15 for a day's parking.

Whilst I can understand your annoyance at the apparent 'tactic', £15 for whole day parking in Central London doesn't seem so bad. Charing Cross Hospital charge that.

Hi James

Not sure if it was you I spoke to. I spoke to a woman, in I think the NBS office and there was a guy there as well. I guess that may have been you. Sorry re-reading your email I guess you were on one of the show stands. I suspect there will be a fair few complaints about this as in the past parking has been pretty reasonable.

Firstly, it is not Central London. If it was, I'd get the train in.

Secondly, it was £5 last year, when the park&ride was working.

Thirdly, £5 park&ride was advertised on their website earlier this year. Mention of it has now mysteriously disappeared.

I will probably still go as I am going with two others. If I had been going on my own, I would have cancelled my plans.

i also paid £12 in purple on saturday,to prevent the que it would be better to pay on exit, as i wasnt to sure how long i could stay

Actually it\'s £12 to park at the boat show for the day

Yes, as said earlier, you get 5-9 hours for £12 (and the show is open for 9 hours most days). Seems crazy to insist on pay-up-front at an exhibition hall.
Hope James comes up with the goods regarding the Park and Ride.
